Winter weather and birds
As expected, we've had different birds into the garden for food. Only the second time that I have ever seen a Pied (White) Wagtail in over thirty years. For two mornings, just as dawn is breaking and alerted by shuffling sounds and quiet clucks, I have counted 8, then 10 Blackbirds jostling each other to get some food to start their day.
Then a Redwing turned up but did seemed too weak to feed properly and died ~ I found it this morning and it weighed next to nothing. They are more susceptable to the cold apparently.
Today a Fieldfare has come in and seems better able to stand its ground with the Blackbirds so I hope this survives. Never seen one so close and its markings are quite beautiful. Have cut up some apples to add to the flake & dried fruit mix.
